ALERT! The course “A History of Witchcraft,” to have been taught by Anne Throckmorton of Randolph-Macon College, has been postponed until the Open University winter term. Taking its place on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. at Lakeside Methodist Church is “Dinnseanchas: The Lore of Ireland’s Landscape” taught in person and online via Zoom by Open University favorite John Countryman.
John describes this new course as follows: Novelist Frank Delaney has written, “Every field in Ireland contains a tale; there’s a myth on every mountain. For legends, follow the stream of any river – and soon you’ll understand why Ireland’s national art form is the story…” This course will explore the “place lore” of Ireland’s topography and sacred sites and how and when the various features of the landscape – field and bog, mountain and shore, lake and river – acquired their myth-infused names.
And an FYI regarding the course “World View”….
The first session of Cary Blankenship’s course “World View,” will be introduced by Richard Dagger, professor emeritus, political science, University of Richmond.
Open University begins NEXT MONDAY, September 23rd!
