Volunteer Opportunity

If you know A/V technology and enjoy continuing education, you’ll be right at home volunteering with The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond’s Open University as a technology assistant (TA). TA’s can volunteer in person on Mondays to set up A/V equipment for instructors and speakers and manage hybrid classes, or remotely on Thursdays to open and manage Zoom classes. Knowledge of Zoom and familiarity with laptops, flash drives, projectors and other A/V equipment is helpful, but can be taught!

Open University is held for three, eight-week sessions in the fall, winter and spring. It meets in person on Mondays at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Approximate volunteer hours are Mondays and/or Thursdays from 8:30 am-1:45 pm. View the current Open University schedule here.

Volunteers are encouraged to observe now during the current spring session and will start at the beginning of the 2023 fall session.

“I volunteer with The Shepherd’s Center’s Open University because it makes me happy. I can use my knowledge of audio-visual setup to make OU classes run smoothly, whether they are online Zoom classes or Power Points run to a classroom projector. The instructors and students appreciate what I do to make their classroom experience more enjoyable. Volunteering is a great way to make my week a little better.”  – Open University TA volunteer
