Jack & Jacques: A Celebration of the Life of Dr. John D. “Jack” Welsh

Last night’s theatrical celebration in honor of the life of our dear friend, Jack, was an absolutely superb tribute.  There were musical selections from Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, intertwined with the account of what it took to get this production on the stage, as well as tales of Jack’s life and loved ones. It was narrated by Bruce Miller and Phil Whiteway, with a surprise special guest performer (all 3 former students of Jack’s), along with four very talented local stage actors and three musicians.

There is one more performance at VA Rep’s Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn (1601 Willow Lawn Dr., 23230) tonight, December 4th, at 7:00 pm, with a reception to follow. You don’t want to miss it.  Anyone who would like to attend can contact Hannah Miller at VA Rep by email (hmiller@virginiarep.org) or by phone (804-783-1688 ex. 1123).

There will also be one final performance at Westminster Canterbury on Tuesday, December 5th, at 7:30 pm.  If you would like to see it there, you will have to make arrangements with Westminster Canterbury or get a resident to host you.

Lecture on North Korea

Do the two words North Korea automatically make you nervous?  Do you need to know more about this enigmatic country?

David GompertCome at noon this Thursday, Nov. 9th, and hear “North Korea:  Dangerous End Game” at First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary St. Rd. (lecture begins at 12:30).  Our speaker is the Honorable David Gompert, senior fellow of the RAND Corporation and distinguished adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Gompert has served as acting director of National Intelligence and, as such, has provided strategic oversight of the U. S. intelligence community.  He has published extensively on international affairs, national security, and information technology.  We are honored to have Prof. Gompert as our final speaker of the Open University’s fall session. Come and bring your friends.  There is no charge for first timers.

 

Feldenkrais??

This is an outstanding article on the Feldenkrais method.  Some of you may be wondering what I am talking about.  In fact, you may be like the TSCOR member who forwarded me this article that his wife had emailed to him – he thought it was a German dish.

Open University on TV8 News

Hello Everyone – We had a wonderful visit yesterday by Amy Lacey, News Channel 8 anchor, at St. Luke’s.  She is working on a story about our Open University, the Center’s lifelong learning program.  The story will air this Friday, October 20, at 5:30 pm on Channel 8 (or your local ABC station) here in Richmond.  Hope you can catch it!

Women’s Group Update

I bet you would like to know what time the group meets tomorrow.  It is 2:30 pm.  So to repeat, the TSCOR Women’s Group will meet every 2nd Thursday of the month at First Presbyterian at 2:30 in the afternoon in Room 218.

Thanks to all of you who let me know the time was missing (oops).  I’m waiting to hear what the exact time the Men’s Group meets, but I do know it is around lunch – Julie
