A Tiny OU Schedule Change

The Shepherd’s Center looks forward to welcoming to St. Luke on Monday, the 27th, Professor Evie Terrono, professor of art history at Randolph-Macon College.  Her very timely topic is “Mansions and Monuments and Southern Identity in Richmond.”

Because of a conflict beyond her control, Prof. Terrono will begin her talk at 12:45, instead of our accustomed 12:30.  That’s a little extra time to learn more about the Shepherd’s Center and to get to know one another (and maybe even have a second piece of cake!)  See you then.  Bring a friend!

Thursday’s Open University Note

You may have seen Mary Lynn Bayliss interviewed on Channel 6 the other morning about her presentation on the Dooleys.  We heard that they listed the location as 3111 Northside Avenue, which is where our administrative office is located.  Mary Lynn Bayliss will be speaking Thursday, September 21 at First Presbyterian Church located at 4602 Cary Street Road.  Thank you Cheryl Miller at WTVR for changing the reference online!

Lunch and Life Update

Father Michael Renninger, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will speak tomorrow, September 20th, on Angels, Saints…and Old Blue Eyes!-Spiritual Themes in Popular Lyrics.  Normally, our presentations are on the lower level of St. Mary, but for Father Renninger, we will be on the upper level of the church in the commons area outside the sanctuary.  Use the main entrance on the Gayton Road side of the building.  Bring a sandwich – the church will provide drinks and additional refreshments.  Doors open at noon and the talk will begin at 12:30 pm.  If you have any questions, please call TSCOR at 355-7282.  Thanks – Julie

Fall 2017 OU Schedule Changes

We have a couple of OU changes to tell you about this morning.  I apologize for the last minute nature, but here it goes.

First, our History of Art and Architecture, St. Luke at 11:00 am, will now be taught by Jeannine Keefer, Visual Resources Librarian and Assistant Professor at the University of Richmond.  We are really looking forward to this.  And second, Ellis West’s topic on Monday, September 25th, will not be The Supreme Court: Religious Causes and the First Amendment, but instead will be Trinity Lutheran Church: The Supreme Court’s Latest Attempt at Interpreting the Religion Clauses of the First Amendment.

Thank you so much and we hope to see you at the OU!

Credit Cards and Travel

Happy hot August day to everyone –

We are now accepting credit card payments for Open University (OU) tuition. Just go to our website (TSCOR.org), and click on the Open University tab under the header picture where you will find a secure link where you can register and pay.  We will also accept credit cards at OU locations during the session.  Very soon we will be rolling out a link for tax-deductible donations. We will let you know when that is available.  Until then, any charitable gifts can be added to your credit card tuition payment.

AND, we have an exciting day trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. The tour includes round-trip motor coach transportation, admission to the aquarium, time to explore on your own, and a boxed lunch in the Harbor View Room.  The final day to join this trip is Monday, September 25.  Click HERE to see the detailed flyer.  We hope you can join us!

Take care and stay cool out there – Julie

Word of mouth is a powerful thing.  Please use it to help us spread the word about The Shepherd’s Center to your friends, family, and neighbors. Invite them to join you for the day.  Guests can attend one day of classes free to see what they think.  And remember, members ($25 annually) can attend lunch speakers free as a benefit of their membership.

NOTE:  Our new online registration feature will be available August 18th, one month before the fall OU session.  And as always, you can either mail your check and registration form to the office or wait until the first day of classes to register on site, where we will also be accepting credit card payments.

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING ALL OF EWE AT THE OU!
