Feldenkrais??

This is an outstanding article on the Feldenkrais method.  Some of you may be wondering what I am talking about.  In fact, you may be like the TSCOR member who forwarded me this article that his wife had emailed to him – he thought it was a German dish.

Click here to read the NY Times article and find out more about this movement technique, AND THEN come check out our Feldenkrais class at the OU.  It is offered Thursdays at 1:30 at First Presbyterian Church.  We have 2 more Thursdays this Fall session and will be starting up again in the Winter session on January 17, 2018.  Hope you will give it a try!

And thank you to George Pangburn, his geography class, Susie Wiltshire, her French class, especially students, Willis O’Brien and Cathy Hayden, who agreed to be interviewed, as well as our incredible Shirley Norman-Regal, an inspiration to us all!

Take a look at our full course schedule and come join us.  You don’t know what you’re missing!

Open University on TV8 News

Hello Everyone – We had a wonderful visit yesterday by Amy Lacey, News Channel 8 anchor, at St. Luke’s.  She is working on a story about our Open University, the Center’s lifelong learning program.  The story will air this Friday, October 20, at 5:30 pm on Channel 8 (or your local ABC station) here in Richmond.  Hope you can catch it!

Women’s Group Update

I bet you would like to know what time the group meets tomorrow.  It is 2:30 pm.  So to repeat, the TSCOR Women’s Group will meet every 2nd Thursday of the month at First Presbyterian at 2:30 in the afternoon in Room 218.

Thanks to all of you who let me know the time was missing (oops).  I’m waiting to hear what the exact time the Men’s Group meets, but I do know it is around lunch – Julie

TSCOR Men’s and Women’s Groups

Did you know that TSCOR has both a Men’s and a Women’s Group? Well, we do! They both began just this past year and now have regular meeting times.

Our Men’s Group meets on the third Wednesday at a little lunch place called “Shore Dog” in the West End (435 N Ridge Road). Anyone interested in attending, respond by email to Jim Evans, jameslevans@yahoo.com.

Our Women’s Group meets on the second Thursday of the month at First Presbyterian Church (4602 Cary Street Road) in Room 218. There will also be “outings” scheduled in between regular meetings.  The group had lunch a couple of Fridays ago in Lakeside and will be discussing the possibility of another outing at the next meeting.  And speaking of the next meeting, it is tomorrow, October 12, where there will be a presentation by one of the members on Genealogy.  Come join us or email Julie, jadams@tscor.org.

We hope everyone interested will come give it a try!

Active Aging Week

This week is Active Aging Week and that’s exactly what we do at The Shepherd’s Center – Age Actively!  Why don’t you join us and Check Out the OU!  The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond offers one of the best lifelong learning opportunities in town – Open University (OU).  Attend a day of classes as our guest to discover if the OU is for you!

There are two opportunities this week:

  • Monday, September 25th from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 7757 Chippenham Parkway.
  • Thursday, September 28th from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 4602 Cary Street Road.

Click HERE to see the fall schedule. We look forward to seeing you at the OU!

Pssst! – Already a student?  This would be a great opportunity for you to bring a friend or neighbor with you (big grin) – Julie

A Tiny OU Schedule Change

The Shepherd’s Center looks forward to welcoming to St. Luke on Monday, the 27th, Professor Evie Terrono, professor of art history at Randolph-Macon College.  Her very timely topic is “Mansions and Monuments and Southern Identity in Richmond.”

Because of a conflict beyond her control, Prof. Terrono will begin her talk at 12:45, instead of our accustomed 12:30.  That’s a little extra time to learn more about the Shepherd’s Center and to get to know one another (and maybe even have a second piece of cake!)  See you then.  Bring a friend!

Thursday’s Open University Note

You may have seen Mary Lynn Bayliss interviewed on Channel 6 the other morning about her presentation on the Dooleys.  We heard that they listed the location as 3111 Northside Avenue, which is where our administrative office is located.  Mary Lynn Bayliss will be speaking Thursday, September 21 at First Presbyterian Church located at 4602 Cary Street Road.  Thank you Cheryl Miller at WTVR for changing the reference online!

Lunch and Life Update

Father Michael Renninger, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, will speak tomorrow, September 20th, on Angels, Saints…and Old Blue Eyes!-Spiritual Themes in Popular Lyrics.  Normally, our presentations are on the lower level of St. Mary, but for Father Renninger, we will be on the upper level of the church in the commons area outside the sanctuary.  Use the main entrance on the Gayton Road side of the building.  Bring a sandwich – the church will provide drinks and additional refreshments.  Doors open at noon and the talk will begin at 12:30 pm.  If you have any questions, please call TSCOR at 355-7282.  Thanks – Julie
