Happy hot August day to everyone –
We are now accepting credit card payments for Open University (OU) tuition. Just go to our website (TSCOR.org), and click on the Open University tab under the header picture where you will find a secure link where you can register and pay. We will also accept credit cards at OU locations during the session. Very soon we will be rolling out a link for tax-deductible donations. We will let you know when that is available. Until then, any charitable gifts can be added to your credit card tuition payment.
AND, we have an exciting day trip to the National Aquarium in Baltimore on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. The tour includes round-trip motor coach transportation, admission to the aquarium, time to explore on your own, and a boxed lunch in the Harbor View Room. Are you ready to get those sun soaked minds working again? Then click here to see the 2017 Fall OU Course Schedule. It is a wonderful line up filled with an array of topics that I am sure will please all. We are very excited for the new school year.
Word of mouth is a powerful thing. Please use it to help us spread the word about The Shepherd’s Center to your friends, family, and neighbors. Invite them to join you for the day. Guests can attend one day of classes free to see what they think. And remember, members ($25 annually) can attend lunch speakers free as a benefit of their membership.
NOTE: Our new online registration feature will be available August 18th, one month before the fall OU session. And as always, you can either mail your check and registration form to the office or wait until the first day of classes to register on site, where we will also be accepting credit card payments.

Senior passes for our national parks have been a bargain for many years, but the National Park Service’s prices for those passes are going up significantly in late August.
The cost of the “Lifetime Senior Pass”–which is $10 now–will increase to $80 on August 28, 2017. An extra $10 processing fee will be added to that charge if you order the pass online or by mail rather than going to an actual park facility. A new year-by-year senior pass will be $20 for each year.
The closest facilities that sell them are the Colonial National Historical Park in Yorktown, Prince William Forest Park (off I-95 near Washington, DC), and Shenandoah National Park. Unfortunately, none of the park facilities in our Richmond area sell lifetime senior passes. For example, Richmond National Battlefield Park does not sell them.

We have started a women’s group and we would love for you to be a part of it! The group will be freeform, with no one leader, and will come up with a short list of topics to assign to each meeting. During the meeting, everyone will have a chance to share what she thinks about the subject and then there will be a group discussion. Meeting frequency is undecided, but there is another planning meeting scheduled where that, and other particulars, will be discussed. Hope you can join us! It’s time once again for the Annual Membership drive of The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond. Please become a member or renew your membership today.
Last year, TSCOR taught over 300 students at The Open University, traveled to Montpelier, VA and the Norfolk Botanical Gardens with Group Travel and provided over 1,400 free rides to seniors, offered by volunteers, through our Transportation Program.
In the coming year, we envision strengthening the Open University program, expanding Group Travel, increasing our team of drivers and maximizing volunteer involvement throughout the organization.
Your membership makes you an integral part of the vital and caring community of individuals who do so much to improve the lives of older people in Richmond and surrounding counties.
Benefits of a TSCOR Membership:
Our annual membership cycle runs July 1 through June 30, concurrent with our fiscal year. The $25 membership may be paid anytime beginning July 1st. Please note that joining later in the annual cycle does not allow for reduced or pro-rated dues.
