Giving Tuesday and The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond

Today is Giving Tuesday – a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.

Because 2024 marks the 40th Anniversary of The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond, we set a goal to raise $40,000 this fiscal year so that we can continue to better serve you, the members of the Center, and the greater Richmond community.

We have already raised $22,313. We need to raise an additional $17,687 by June 30, 2024, to meet our goal.

Won’t you consider donating $40 – or better yet, some multiple of $40 – on this Giving Tuesday?

With your help we will continue to transform the Richmond community, providing programs and services for older adults who wish to remain independent, active and engaged. (To see the full extent of the Center’s work, read the Annual Report here.)

Or you can call the office at 804-355-7282. Thank you for helping us achieve our goal!

Wishing you all the best for the holiday season,
Peter C. Pettit
President, Board of Directors
The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond

Get Ready! Open University Starts Monday

Everyone is eager for the start of the fall Open University session this coming Monday. A couple things to note so you’re all ready:

One, there’s been a change to the Monday, Sept. 20 Lunch Speaker. In lieu of the previously scheduled, “Virginia Voice: Eyes for Those Who Can’t See,” Dr. Karen Sherry, curator at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, will present, “Moral, Maternal, Mannish, & Monstrous: Suffragist Images, 1900-1920.”

And two, Zoom links for all classes and speakers will arrive to your email Sunday evening. Remember to check your spam and junk folders if you don’t see them in your inbox!

Now you’re all set! Keep your mind as sharp as your pencils; learn something new at the OU!

Smile! The Open University Schedule is HERE!

Time to turn those pandemic frowns upside down! It took us a little longer than we would’ve liked – thanks to a few unexpected COVID precautions – but the fall 2021 OU schedule is here!!!

A few things to know: Classes are entirely online for the fall 2021 session. No in-person classes will be held. The fall tuition deal is available this year. Hard copies of the schedule will arrive in mailboxes next week.

And don’t forget this! TSCOR members get FREE access to ALL of the lunch speakers. Even if you aren’t taking classes this session, make OU a part of your lunch hour.

So get out your calendar, peruse the schedule, and work on that smile! (If you have a frowny friend, share the schedule with them! We’re one big Zooming family around here.)

Look Forward to Fall: Lifelong Learning with The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond

The official start date of autumn is a couple weeks away, but with Labor Day behind us, our attention turns to fall activities we love. What better activities to look forward to than the lifelong learning programs of TSCOR?

Open University is entirely online via Zoom this fall. Sign up for great classes and a chance to virtually wave at your fellow students and favorite teachers. Wednesday’s Lunch & Life – always free, open to the public, and normally presented in partnership with St. Mary Catholic Church – has also moved online for the fall 2020 session.

While “spring forward, fall back,” works wonderfully as a clock-setting mnemonic, it does not necessarily apply to life. Don’t fall back and look behind to what was missed; look forward to fall with TSCOR! Register today! And share this info with friends and family – let’s look forward to fall together.
